True to the nose, this wine’s palate is further described by François as complex, layered and opulent..revealing gorgeously melted toffee notes that complement the rich bouquet of black fruits. The introduction of the Matanzas Creek 2003 Merlot is a meaningful occasion, as this vintage of their affectionately named “House Red” is the very first to possess a Bennett Valley designate. This wine’s debut is timely, as it takes place on the second anniversary of Bennett Valley’s recognition as Sonoma County’s 13th American Viticulture Appellation (AVA) in 2003. The Merlot fruit is sourced from the vineyards surrounding our Estate and Jackson Park, Matanzas Creek’s Estate-owned mountain vineyard located 930-feet above Bennett Valley. Bennett Valley fruit benefits from wide swings between daytime and evening temperatures resulting from a cool maritime breeze.
