On the Central Coast, few sites are more suited to growing the noble varietal Syrah than Léal… Leal’s Winemaker Dave Griffith says: “I wanted to make a Syrah that’s more than just a fruit bomb. This ’02 Syrah is focused and elegant. The appearance is dark and rich with ruby color and a purple hue. The soft entrance evolves and blossoms in the mid palate, followed by an extended finish that makes each sip an experience. My aim is to avoid dumb wine - Viognier was added to bring a floral aroma and soften the edges. Grenache gives an interesting gamy component and Malbec was used for mouthfeel and structure.
