79% Sangiacomo Vineyards - Carneros 21% Frostwatch Vineyard - Bennett Valley
The 2004 Damaris Reserve is a blend of these growers’ finest grapes. The Tall Grass and Green Acres ranches of the Sangiacomos consistently produce some of the best grapes in the Carneros appellation. Frostwatch, at the other end of the Sonoma Valley in the recently established Bennett Valley appellation, shares a similar cool climate that delays ripening and enables chardonnay to retain high acidity, a key element for balance and ageability in this varietal.Each of these three lots was barrel fermented with indigenous yeasts, completed malo-lactic fermentation and spent 12 months sur lie.
Toasty, creamy vanillin, roasted grain and oak aromas lead to a bright tangerine and lemon custard flavors on the palate. Nice viscosity and balancing acidity give this wine a soft inviting mouthfeel, one that encourages a second, and then a third sip; a fruit forward, quintessentially Sonoma chardonnay.
