Background
Using cuttings obtained from the Medoc region of Bordeaux, the Cousino family established Cabernet Sauvignon in their vineyards in 1863. Since that time, the genetic integrity of Cousino Cabernet Sauvignon has been maintained through rigorous massal selection in the vineyards and by on-going propagation within the family’s vine nursery. Thus, this Cabernet Sauvignon is made from vines directly descended from those original pre-phylloxera cuttings. In 1927, Arturo Cousino, grandfather of the present generation, began cellaring a special selection of Cabernet Sauvignon to serve to friends, guests, and family. This was the beginning of the Antiguas Reserveas tradition. This special cellar-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon became Chile’s wine ambassador to the world.
Vineyards
Made 100% from family-owned vineyards in Maipo Valley. Unusual in this era of grafted vines, Cousino Cabernet Sauvignon has always been grown on its own root system. Over time the vines have adapted well to Maipo Valley’s alluvial and sandy-loam soils.
Tasting Notes
Dark ruby, this Cabernet Sauvignon displaysrefined fruit aromas of black currant and blackplum backed up by fragrances of violets and spices.Medium full-bodied and supple in the mouth, itoffers a melange of Maipo Valley flavours--blackberry fruit with lovely touches of rosemary,mocha and light oak spice. Balanced andharmonious, it has fine-grained, smooth tanninsthat carry through to a long finish. Well-knit, it canbe enjoyed in its youth or aged for at least adecade.
