Grape vines have produced their buds
and the 2008 growing season is upon us! What can we
expect? Though rains this winter were light, there still
was significantly more moisture than last year's drought.
Late season freeze warnings had some vintners concerned,
but the overall belief is that no damage has been done
to the young buds. Budbreak has occurred within 3-5
days of last year's bud break and many expect a growing
season similar to 2007.
Spring is always a time of excitement
and anticipation. Now that bud break has occurred, Napa
is buzzing with activity. The excitement can be felt
at CuveeCellars.com also! Spring is the time when many
wineries release their new vintages. Already we have
found favorites!
With so many new favorites this
Spring, we cannot possibly list all of them. Standouts
include the 2006
- Patricia Green Estate Pinot Noir [$32.99], a well
focused pinot noir with a bit of a dark side. With a
little bit of aging, expect fascination with this wine.
Another standout is the 2007
- Barnard Griffin Rose of Sangiovese [$14.99] which
is a electric watermelon color. A great dry Rosé with
hints of cherry...nothing boring about this Rosé.
Are you in the mood for cocoa powder and blackberry?
Then the 2004
- Amizetta Estate Cabernet Sauvignon [$44.99] is
what you need. You will find may layers of black fruits
intermingling into a smooth finish. Surprising us with
great wine for the price is the Lot
81 Fess Parker Frontier Red [$18.99]. A blend of
Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Mouvedre, Cinsault and
Carignane that results in mild spice, fruity berry,
and smooth vanilla. Think BBQ!
Cheers!
