***5 Bottles Remaining***Veuve Clicquot is famous for its rosé champagne, the splendid result of both the winemaker’s knowledge and expertise combined with the House tradition of wine-making which reaches back more than two hundred years. Although rosé champagne is considered the ideal wine for romantic occasions, it nevertheless delights connoisseurs and wine lovers alike. A pioneering House in the domain of rosé champagne, Veuve Clicquot was the first to commercialise it as early as September 1775. In keeping with tradition, Veuve Clicquots Rosé Reserve is only made in the greatest years, and is a blend of white and red wine.
VINTAGE The winter was extremely cold, with snow covering the Montagne de Reims area for a longperiod of time. This was followed by an unexpected thaw with moderate showers, and a fewscattered frosts in the most unsheltered areas. Spring was early with some rain, while Maywas particularly hot and dry. Flowering, which fortunately was not spoilt by the rain at theend of June, took place under excellent - nearly heat-wave - conditions. Early summer was aseason of contrasts, with alternate showers and spells of hot weather encouraging rapidgrowth. August was dry and sunny, providing ideal temperatures for grape maturation. The first two weeks of September were cloudy and grey but gradually improved, givingperfect conditions for harvesting. The grapes were picked in dry weather and the berrieswere extremely healthy.
In the Bouzy Grand Cru area, the Pinot Noir grapes, which are used for Bouzy red wine, were harvested on 26 and 27 September. Their maturity was excellent, and both a richaromatics and intense colour were present.
CUVEE Rosé Reserve 1998 resembles the Vintage Reserve 1998 blend, which is made up of 58%Pinot Noir, 11% Pinot Meunier and 31% Chardonnay. This blend is completed with anadditional 14% of red wine from Bouzy, produced from Pinot Noir grapes originating inVeuve Clicquots vineyards.
